Greater Boston Stage Company produces one World or U.S. Premiere play or musical each season as part of the Don Fulton New Works Project.

We are only accepting submissions via agents at this time.

We strongly encourage interested playwrights without agent representation to consider joining the National New Play Network New Play Exchange. GBSC utilizes this site as a major resource for research and discovery of potential titles for the Don Fulton New Works Project.

Submission and Eligibility Requirements

Greater Boston Stage Company accepts manuscripts and materials for full-length, original plays and musicals by living writers who are at least 18 years old.

We are a mission-driven theatre and select plays and musicals for development and production based on their intersection with our mission.

Things to keep in mind:
The mission of Greater Boston Stage Company is to keep the art of professional theatre and dramatic education thriving in the suburbs.

We seek to strengthen community in our suburban setting by encouraging first-time and seasoned audiences to experience the excitement of live theatre. We present plays and musicals, both familiar and new, which speak to the interests and concerns of our region and beyond.

We are looking for plays and musicals that recognize, speak to, and challenge our suburban audiences. Many in our audience are not traditional theatre-goers and may not have seen theatre prior to visiting GBSC.

So, what do we want? We want to expose our audiences to stories they might not otherwise see, but that also don’t alienate them.

You can learn more about our company history here: History, and our production history here: Past Seasons/Archive

Any questions about submissions should be directed to literary@greaterbostonstage.org.

Other rules
  • All plays and musicals must be full length.
  • Plays and musicals cannot have had a professional production within the U.S. Previous readings, workshops, or academic productions are allowed.
  • We are not accepting children's shows at this time.
  • Adapted work will be considered, provided the rights to any material not in the public domain have been granted.
