Young Company FAQs

How do I sign up for a program?
  • Call the Box Office Monday through Friday, 11am – 6pm, or Saturdays 1pm – 6pm.
  • You can register by phone or fill out the registration form for the program, and either bring it to the Box Office in person or drop it in the mail to us at 395 Main Street, Stoneham, MA 02180 (to the attention of the Education Department).

How do I know which program to sign my child up for?
  • Students in grades 1 – 3 are in our Overture program.
  • Students in grades 4 – 6 are in our Act 1 program.
  • Students in grades 7 – 9 are in our Act 2 program.
  • Students in grades 10 – 12 are in our Act 3 program.

How long are classes?
  • Fall and Spring classes are 70 minutes in length. Voice lessons are 30 minutes in length.

How many sessions are classes?
  • Our Fall and Spring classes are eight sessions long.

What happens if there’s inclement weather, or if a class is cancelled by the theatre?
  • Make-up classes will be arranged for the week immediately following the eighth class.
(Please note: make-ups are only held if the theatre cancels a class, not if a student misses a class.)

What is the minimum and maximum enrollment in a class?
  • All classes have a minimum enrollment of 6 and a maximum enrollment of 16.

Who are the instructors for all of your programs?
  • Our teachers, vocal instructors, directors, music directors, and choreographers are all professional theatre artists living and working in the Boston area. That’s the benefit of choosing an education program that is connected to a professional theatre. Your kids will learn from the best of the best!

Is prior experience required for any classes?
  • If a class is an advanced level which requires previous experience, that will be specified in the description.
  • There is always a class for young performers at every level!

How can I tell if this program is the right fit?
  • Our motto is: Good Theatre Makes Good People.  And we mean it.  There is a space here for everyone. We are reflective practitioners who encourage a safe and supportive environment. In dialogue with parents and students, we believe that students should have a space to truly be themselves.  Whether you’ve never done theatre before or performing is your true passion, Greater Boston Stage Company can be a home for you.

Why should my family choose Greater Boston Stage Company’s Young Company?
  • The connection to our professional theatre.
  • Our competitive pricing.
  • Our financial aid and payment plan opportunities.
  • GREAT educators.
  • We believe in all of the benefits of theatre education. Not only do our students learn to become excellent performers, but they also learn life skills such as public speaking, self-confidence, teamwork, and so much more.
  • It is not a coincidence that students return to our programs year after year. They learn a lot, have a blast, and make great friends.
